Natural Cleaning Solution

This natural cleaning solution is easy and simple to make. It’s a great way to minimise toxic chemicals in your home and protect your health and the environment.

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup dishwashing liquid
  • 1 cup water

Simply place the ingredients into a spray bottle, gently shake the mixture and you have a natural cleaning solution at your fingertips.

Step 1: Preparation

  • Remove the oven racks from the inside of your oven.
  • If you are using a bathtub, plug the bottom and lay the towel down on the bottom of the bathtub to prevent any scratches.
  • Place the oven racks on top of the towel in your bathtub or other cleaning vessel.

Step 2: Soaking

  • Start by turning on the water and gradually adding the dishwashing liquid or dishwashing tablet.
  • We recommend using warm or hot water to help loosen up any grease while the dishwashing liquid gets to work.
  • Ensure that the oven racks are fully submerged in the water.
  • Leave the oven racks to soak for 6 to 10 hours or overnight if possible.
  • Be sure to thoroughly rinse and clean your bathtub to remove any grease.

Step 4: Natural Cleaning Solution

  • Spray the internal sides of your oven with the natural cleaning solution.
  • Allow the mixture to sit for 1-2 hours.
  • Wipe the inside of your oven with a clean cloth.
  • If you have stubborn stains, you can sprinkle baking soda on these and spray with the natural cleaning solution. The baking soda will bubble when the vinegar is applied. Let this solution sit for 30 minutes and wipe down with a clean cloth.
  • Rinse the cloth and repeat until your oven is clean.

Step 5: Rinse and Replace

  • Once the racks have finished soaking, use a soft sponge to gently lift any remaining grease. It should lift away easily without scrubbing or using a scourer.
  • Use a brush (or old toothbrush) to scrub any hard-to-reach places.
  • Rinse and dry the oven racks thoroughly before placing them back into the oven.
